Why Trading Matters
Trading is the fastest way to acquire rare pets, high-value crops, and limited items in Grow a Garden. But uninformed trades can cost you millions. This guide teaches you how to evaluate every trade accurately.
How to Value Items
Crop Values
Crop value depends heavily on weight and mutations. A common Carrot with a Disco mutation (125x) is worth far more than a bare Legendary crop. Always consider:
- Base value × weight multiplier × mutation multipliers
- Use the Crop Value Calculator for exact numbers
- Growth variants (Silver/Gold/Rainbow) dramatically affect value
Pet Values
Pet value is determined by:
- Rarity — Transcendent > Prismatic > Divine > Mythical > Legendary > etc.
- Weight — Heavier pets are more valuable (use Pet Weight Calculator)
- Ability — High-utility abilities (Disco Bee, Kitsune) command premium prices
- Obtainability — Unobtainable pets (Headless Horseman) are worth significantly more
Egg Values
Egg value depends on:
- Pet pool quality — An egg containing Kitsune (0.08%) has inherent lottery value
- Obtainability — Event eggs that can't be purchased are premium
- Hatch time — Longer hatch times generally indicate rarer contents
Using the Trade Checker
Our Trade Checker compares both sides of any trade:
- Add items to "Your Side" with their values
- Add items to "Their Side" with their values
- The tool calculates the difference and gives a verdict:
- Win — You're getting more than 10% extra value
- Fair — Within 10% of equal value
- Lose — You're giving away more than 10% extra value
Trading Tips
Do's
- Always check values before trading — Never guess
- Know the current meta — Which pets and mutations are in demand
- Trade up incrementally — Small consistent wins beat risky all-in trades
- Keep rare unobtainable items — Their value only increases over time
- Screenshot your trades — Proof in case of disputes
Don'ts
- Never rush a trade — Pressure is a scam tactic
- Don't trade based on rarity alone — A common Carrot with Rainbow + Disco is worth more than most Legendaries
- Don't accept "trust trades" — If someone asks you to go first, it's a scam
- Don't trade pets at low weight — Age them up first for maximum value
Common Scams to Avoid
The Switcheroo
The trader shows a valuable item, then swaps it for a similar-looking but less valuable one right before confirming.
Prevention: Always double-check items in the trade window before confirming.
The Pressure Trade
"Quick, someone else wants this too!" — Designed to make you accept without checking values.
Prevention: Take your time. Legitimate traders won't pressure you.
The Overpay Bait
Offering you an amazing deal for free, then asking you to "just add one small thing" that's actually the valuable part.
Prevention: If a deal looks too good to be true, it is.
The Fake Value Claim
"This pet is worth 100M!" when it's actually worth 1M.
Prevention: Always verify values independently using our calculators.
