How Eggs Work

Eggs are the primary way to obtain pets in Grow a Garden. Each egg contains a pool of possible pets, with each pet having a specific hatch probability. You buy the egg, wait for the hatch timer, and receive a random pet from the pool.

Standard Eggs

These are always available from shops:

| Egg | Price | Hatch Time | Best Pet | |-----|-------|------------|----------| | Common Egg | 50,000 | 10 min | Dog, Bunny, Golden Lab | | Uncommon Egg | 150,000 | 20 min | Cat, Chicken, Deer | | Rare Egg | 600,000 | 45 min | Orange Tabby, Monkey | | Legendary Egg | 3,000,000 | 2 hrs | Tiger, Dragonfly |

When to Buy Standard Eggs

  • Common/Uncommon — Only when starting out and need any pet
  • Rare — Good value for building your collection
  • Legendary — Save up for these; Dragonfly (Gold mutation) is a game-changer

Special Eggs

Higher-tier eggs with rare pet pools:

| Egg | Price | Notable Pet | That Pet's Chance | |-----|-------|-------------|-------------------| | Dinosaur Egg | 10M | T-Rex | 20% | | Bug Egg | 50M | Butterfly | 30% | | Night Egg | 5M | Raccoon | 45% | | Paradise Egg | 50M | Capybara | 55% | | Gem Egg | 100M | Diamond Panther | 40% | | Zen Egg | 15M | Kitsune | 0.08% |

The Kitsune Gamble

The Kitsune has a 0.08% hatch rate from the Zen Egg. Let's break down what that means:

  • Expected hatches to get one: ~1,250
  • Cost for 50% chance: ~866 hatches = 13 billion Sheckles
  • Cost for 90% chance: ~2,878 hatches = 43 billion Sheckles
  • Cost for 99% chance: ~5,754 hatches = 86 billion Sheckles

Use our Egg Probability Calculator to calculate exact probabilities for any egg and pet combination.

Event Eggs

Event eggs are free but only available during specific events:

| Egg | Event | Notable Pet | |-----|-------|-------------| | Bee Egg | Bizzy Bees | Queen Bee | | Anti-Bee Egg | Bizzy Bees | Disco Bee, Butterfly | | Hive Egg | Bizzy Bees | Empress Bee | | Campfire Egg | Campfire | Fire Wisp | | Sprout Egg | Sprout | Golden Goose | | Carnival Egg | Carnival | Carnival Elephant | | Spooky Egg | Halloween | Headless Horseman (unobtainable) |

Event eggs are always worth hatching — they're free and contain some of the best pets in the game.

Hatching Strategy

Budget Approach (Under 10M)

  1. Hatch Common and Uncommon eggs until you have 2-3 pets
  2. Save for a Rare Egg to get utility pets
  3. Participate in every event for free eggs

Mid-Budget (10M – 100M)

  1. Buy Dinosaur Eggs for T-Rex and Triceratops
  2. Bug Eggs for a chance at Butterfly
  3. Night Eggs for Raccoon (great value at 5M)

High Budget (100M+)

  1. Gem Eggs for Diamond Panther and Sapphire Macaw
  2. Paradise Eggs for Capybara and Mimic Octopus
  3. Zen Eggs only if you can afford the Kitsune grind

General Tips

  • Don't hatch one at a time — Buy multiple eggs and let them all hatch simultaneously if possible
  • Sell duplicates — Unwanted pets from expensive eggs still have trade value
  • Seal pet recovery — If you have a Seal, it has a 2% chance to recover the egg when you sell a pet
  • Track your hatches — Keep count to know your expected probability

Cost Efficiency Ranking

Best pets per Sheckle spent (expected cost to obtain):

  1. Capybara from Paradise Egg — ~91M expected cost (55% rate, 50M egg)
  2. T-Rex from Dinosaur Egg — ~50M expected cost (20% rate, 10M egg)
  3. Raccoon from Night Egg — ~11M expected cost (45% rate, 5M egg)
  4. Butterfly from Bug Egg — ~167M expected cost (30% rate, 50M egg)
  5. Tiger from Legendary Egg — ~15M expected cost (20% rate, 3M egg)

The Kitsune at ~18.75 billion expected cost is clearly a luxury chase — only pursue it after you've built a strong pet lineup from more affordable eggs.
